About Rich Mix
Rich Mix is a multi-disciplinary arts centre located in Tower Hamlets in East London. Established in 2001 to address the needs of marginalised communities in the local area, it opened the doors of the current building in 2006.
Today Rich Mix welcomes the communities of the world in East London to create, enjoy and share culture.
In the autumn of 2019, we awarded £33,115 to the Rich Mix Film Education Programme. Working with primary school children in Tower Hamlets, the programme promotes learning through film and is designed to improve children's life chances through creative and personal development.
The programme also supports and trains schoolteachers, hosts live screenings of movies, and, through a series of workshops, allows groups of children to create their own film which is played at an end-of-year Primary School Film Festival.
A well-rounded education needs to include the arts, and so we are glad to see how well-received this programme has been locally. As schools come out of the latest lockdown in 2021, we eagerly wait to see the programme get up and running again and to bring more colour and creativity to Tower Hamlets.
Seeing the schoolchildren actively using their imagination to create poems and movie ideas has been a joy to watch… I really look forward to seeing what great ideas emerge and I think that the work that the young people produce will be a proud testament to creating art under some very trying circumstancesMr Gee
