As part of an exciting collaboration, students from Stepney All Saints Secondary School recently visited The Building Crafts College in East London. Supported by the MyBigCareer programme, the visit connected young people with industry experts and exciting career opportunities in construction.

The day began with a tour of the college where 24 students got to explore the facilities at the leading crafts construction college in the UK. They were given an opportunity to be creative by trying out new activities such as stone carving.

I enjoyed how there were engaging activities that allowed us students to see how good we are at craftsmanship.

In the afternoon, students met with a construction industry expert who spoke about the importance of maintaining a positive attitude in a professional environment as well as sharing invaluable insights into career growth.

Feedback from the students was incredibly positive: 100% felt they benefited from the visit, and all would recommend it to their friends. Nine of out of 10 said they left feeling more confident and all said they felt clearer about their future career paths.

The event taught me values and skills about how to make choices in the world of work and when I'm picking my career.

This visit was part of MyBigCareer’s to aim to guide underrepresented young people on pathways to a working world where they can thrive. Through career guidance, employer insight days , and work experience, the charity successfully helps students aged 11 to 18 to overcome any barriers to success they might be facing.

We’re proud to support Stepney All Saints Secondary School, MyBigCareer, and The Building Crafts College. Not only did this collaborative visit provide students with new practical skills, but it also inspired them to explore career opportunities in the construction industry.
