Our former Chairman leaves the Board after a transformational 9 years as a Governor
This January we’re saying goodbye to our former Chairman John Hall, who’s stepping down from our Board after 9 years of service.
John joined the Board in 2015 and was Chairman of our Grants Committee from 2017 to 2018, before becoming Chairman of the Board in 2018.
John played a key role in our change of name in 2021. He was the last Chairman of Sir John Cass’s Foundation and the first Chairman of the newly named Portal Trust; he stepped down from that role in 2022.
A geographer by training, John lectured at Queen Mary, University of London and later served as Chief Executive of London Councils, the umbrella body for local government in Greater London.
John has brought immense knowledge and experience to our Board, and has helped make us a more open and engaging charity, listening to and becoming more responsive to beneficiaries and communities across London.
We’re deeply grateful for John’s commitment to the Portal Trust and his thoughtful, collaborative style of leadership. We wish him a long and happy retirement and we hope to see him at our future events.
