On 12th April 2022, Mountview announced that The Portal Trust have awarded £86,650 over three years for their Generation N*xt Programme.

Established in 1945 by amateur actor Peter Coxhead, Mountview is one of the most inclusive drama schools in the UK with the mission 'to be a performance and creative learning centre of excellence and opportunity for all'.

Generation N*xt is Mountview's flagship young people's programme designed to help 'tackle barriers to the arts for local young people by ensuring everyone can participate in fun, life-enriching artistic activities and creating pathways into the theatre profession.

Taking place every Saturday and Wednesday, Generation N*xt provides acting, ballet, hip-hop, musical theatre and film making classes to young people aged 6-24 from across South London, helping them to develop their skills, meet new friends and engage their creativity.

The £86,650 grant from the Portal Trust will help to support free and highly subsidised places on the programme for thousands of young people across South London, helping to ensure that cost does not remain a barrier to participation.

“We are delighted to be working with Mountview, having visited just before the pandemic. We hope that our three-year grant in support of the Generation N*xt Bursary Programme will enable, and indeed strengthen, the delivery of a strong artist-led theatre training programme for thousands of young people in Peckham and the surrounding areas that will remove barriers to drama training and open up pathways to the theatre industry”

Richard Foley
CEO of The Portal Trust
