In December 2021, an Education Committee inquiry led by Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP into challenges facing children and young people from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller backgrounds called for written evidence. We are delighted to say that last month Professor Graeme Atherton was able to make a submission based upon his report commissioned by The Portal Trust in 2020.

The inquiry will examine educational challenges and the effectiveness of the Government’s recently introduced education programme for GRT children. It has a wide scope, with many noteworthy organisations and individuals from across the United Kingdom submitting evidence, including, Goldsmiths, University of London and the National Association of Headteachers. We eagerly await the Committee’s findings to be released over the coming months.

We will be publishing a follow-up to our earlier report later this spring.
